Thoughtfully Designed: A Son’s Bedroom & Powder Bath Transformation

Situated in the charming Tangletown neighborhood of South Minneapolis, this historic home is beautiful in its character but didn’t yet reflect the style and needs of its new owners. The family had recently moved in and loved the architecture of their house, but two spaces—their son’s bedroom and the powder bath—felt particularly out of sync with their vision. Both rooms had been left as the previous homeowner had designed them, and neither suited their young, modern family.

Their son’s bedroom lacked the playfulness and energy they wanted to incorporate while also serving as a space that could grow with him through different stages of childhood and adolescence. Meanwhile, the powder bath was dark and outdated, standing in stark contrast to the client’s love for light, nature-inspired tones. They knew they wanted these rooms to feel cohesive with the rest of their home but didn’t have the time or expertise to bring their vision to life. That’s where we stepped in.

Project Goals: What We Set Out to Achieve

For this project, we had two clear objectives:

  • Create a playful yet timeless bedroom that sparks joy for their young son today while providing a foundation that would transition seamlessly into his adolescent years.

  • Brighten and refresh the powder bath to match the home’s overall aesthetic—light, fresh, and inspired by nature.

  • Provide a full-service experience that handled everything from design to procurement to installation, allowing the homeowners to step into a fully finished space without the stress of managing details.

Son’s Bedroom: A Space Designed to Grow With Him

We approached this bedroom transformation with longevity in mind. While we wanted to incorporate youthful elements, it was equally important to create a space that wouldn’t feel too juvenile in just a few years.

  • Furniture Selection: We chose timeless, high-quality pieces that could transition through different life stages, including a bed frame that would work just as well for a teen as it does for a young child.

  • Color Palette & Decor: We balanced playful elements with classic design, using colors and patterns that felt both fun and sophisticated.

  • Layered Textiles: Soft, inviting bedding, layered rugs, and window treatments added warmth and comfort.

  • Final Styling: We layered on all the elements that make a space fun and joyful for a young boy, including stuffed animals, printed sheets and vibrant personalized prints. From hanging artwork to placing the perfect finishing touches, we ensured the room felt polished and complete.

Powder Bathroom: A Small Space with a Big Transformation

The powder bath, though small, had a major impact on the home’s overall aesthetic. Our focus was on brightening the space and aligning it with the homeowners' vision.

  • Wallpaper Selection: We swapped the dark, outdated wall color for a fresh, nature-inspired wallpaper that immediately lightened the space while also bringing in some personality.

  • Hardware & Fixtures: Updated hardware and fixtures in warm, modern finishes gave the room a refined yet approachable feel.

  • Lighting & Accessories: Thoughtfully chosen lighting, a beautiful mirror, and carefully curated accessories completed the transformation.

The Finished Spaces: A Home That Feels Like Theirs

The transformation was exactly what this family needed. Their son’s bedroom now reflects his personality while having the sophistication to grow with him. The space feels fun yet pulled together, with layers of thoughtful details that make it both inviting and functional.

The powder bath, once an afterthought, is now a charming, welcoming space that blends seamlessly with the rest of the home. With light, natural tones and fresh details, it feels like an intentional extension of their design style rather than a leftover relic from the previous owners.

Most importantly, the homeowners could enjoy the results without the stress of managing the project themselves. From hiring wallpaper installers to ensuring the sheets were on the bed, we took care of every detail so they could simply walk in and enjoy their beautifully transformed home.
