Confession: I've been hard at work on several large-scale remodels this year, and I still need to share them properly here on the blog or Instagram. Even I am scratching my head wondering, "Why haven't I shared them yet!?!?" I've been holding back because the messy middle doesn't seem that exciting to share, or it's because I've been so heads-down in the work that I haven't thought to post them yet. Whatever the reason, I want to share what we are working on here at 13th Ave and invite you to follow along as we complete these projects.
Each of these projects is going to impact these homeowners' ability to fully use and enjoy their spaces. Each one has a very unique set of objectives, along with its own design style. And while we have multiple basements and multiple kitchens, you'll see no two projects are the same.
So, let's finally do this and show you what we've been up to:
The space: Full basement remodel
The why: This fantastic and busy family has growing children, with their firstborn entering teen years. What was once working in their home is no longer serving them, including shared bedrooms, an open rec room-like basement, and a make-shift office. The basement, while vast and finished, has potential to be redistributed to give them another bedroom, another bath, better storage, and a more practical use of their space.
Our goals are to carefully use the budget to give them everything they need, much of what they want, and to create a usable basement for the whole family. That will include adding a bedroom and bath for the soon-to-be teen, a family hang-out spot, a better space for visiting guests to stay, and even a cat door to the utility room so the door doesn't always have to be be open.
I am so excited to give this family more rooms and functionality and to make it fresh and new.
The punch list:
Add one bedroom
Add one three-quarter bath
Change out windows for egress
Reconfigure built-ins to house a fridge and more closed-storage
Add a built-in media unit
New flooring, paint, trim, lighting, doors and hardware
Project Kick-off: January 2024
Projected Project completion: August 2024
