From Baby to Big Kid: A Bedroom Refresh Revealed!

The first mini-reveal of the new year! And while I've shared some sneak peeks on Instagram, this is the first look at all the updates we made to transform our daughter's room from baby to big kid.

Before we jump in, here is a little back story on how I first designed this room back in 2018. I was pregnant with our daughter and still working corporate full time, with design as a side hobby. We'd only lived in our house a year and had done very little to decorate it, but I knew I wanted to get her room fully "done" before she was born. Not just buying a crib and moving in the rocking chair, but to get it to a place that had it looking and feeling good without any outstanding to-do's.

With the help of Pinterest, I added, removed, and shuffled around a lot of ideas until I landed on the design that just clicked! Once those things fell into place, it was time for paint, purchasing, and nesting.

Fast forward to 2023, and that baby has grown into a 4 ½-year-old who was too tall for her toddler bed and needed something bigger. I'm happy to say that we still loved her space (even our very picky rainbow and unicorn loving child), so the mission was to make only necessary updates while keeping the room cohesive and cozy.

The punch list was:

  • Twin Bed: like I said, the toddler one was too small, and while the frame converted into a double, her tiny room didn't have space for that.

  • Rug: the braided rug we had in her room was getting worn and was hard to clean. On top of that, it was far from allergy-friendly and had a way of eating every speck of dirt and dust.

  • Bedding and lighting: naturally with the new bed we needed new bedding that's cute but also durable enough for kids. We also needed a light by her bed since we quickly switched to doing bedtime reading in bed vs. on the rocking chair.

End result is that with a careful planning and selecting we were able to go from baby to big girl with minimal effort and spending. I'm thankful to say that Greta is really proud of her new space. As a parent, I'm grateful she has an area that's all hers and reflects who she is and what she enjoys. Shouldn't we all have that?

XOXO
